With the Melting Chair, Philipp Aduatz's aim was to 'capture a transient transformation within a sculptural object'. The Melting Chair is carefully crafted to appear as a solid chair melting away, or as  solidification of molten liquid. The designer studied the behaviour of fluids as well as the melting of solids with modern 3D animation software, resulting in this fantastic, but wholly usable and functional piece.
